Latest Pinterest Updates 2019 – What Is Wrong with Pinterest Lately? – Pinterest Changes

Let me guess . You’re watching this video
because something changed on Pinterest and you want to know if there was a Pinterest
update ? What’s going on ? Pinterest is not the same today as it was just one year ago in 2018 . Trust me , a lot of
things changed and the ways you promote your content on Pinterest should also reflect those
changes . Hi , I’m Anastasia of AnastasiaBlogger.com, I’m a Pinterest
marketing expert and I cover new Pinterest tips on this channel every Thursday . And
in this video I will cover the major Pinterest updates which happened recently , well, I will cover
approximately the last year’s events and before we move on I wanted to make a short disclaimer
here . You need to understand that Pinterest is updating the algorithm constantly and YouTube videos
. If I’m publishing now , I cannot update my YouTube video . But I can’t update my article
on the site , and that’s what I actually do . I have a post on the site called
Pinterest Updates and I here at the months where the latest months when I made and most
recent update to this post I will give you a link to this block boast in the description below
this video . If you come to watch my video at any time later , and it doesn’t look like
I just covered some of the most recent updates than probably , that’s because I cannot upload a new video
about updates every day or every month , every once in a while , as soon as Pinterest makes
in your day . So what I’m going to do , I’m going to always update this blog post . You click
on that link in the description below the video , and you will always find the latest
information about Pinterest changes and updates there. I’m recording this video in the last day of August 2019 . Abou
publish it a few days later because I always publish on a schedule on Thursdays , my Pinterest
tips . I’m not sure if by the time when I publish the video , this little change that created
so much buzz in the Facebook groups for bloggers will be still as it is today . So the question
that a lot of people off me in my group for students of my course and also in various Facebook
groups for bloggers , is where the hack Pinterest monthly viewers number has gone because
if you click on any profile and most of the profiles. Okay , I cannot tell for sure
that every profile on Pinterest currently doesn’t have this number . But most of the
accounts that I’ve seen right now are not showing any Pinterest monthly viewers public
. And why a lot of people were freaking out in the last week is when they go to their
business hub, they can see this zero monthly viewers. Which is even more scary than just not seeing
any monthly viewers on your profile page actually Pinterest didn’t make any official statements
in regards to this number , at least in the last week . Maybe it’s going to happen next
week , but what I think is going on is that Pinterest is making some serious updates on
the platform . And when this happens , it’s not the first time that this number disappears for a while . So when this happens
, Pinterest is probably recalculating some of the statistics is maybe updating some of
the data , and then just glitches happen. Or maybe they even hide this number on purpose,
so it doesn’t create any confusion during these updates . Anyway , I expect that this
number is going to come back soon because Pinterest just started f we scroll down in my article , you showing this number publicly not so long
ago , about a year ago in the middle of 2018. I will
find it . If we scroll down in my artile, you will find among other changes in 2018 one of the new things on Pinterest profiles
was the introduction of this Pinterest monthly viewers . So you can see here, this happened
about one year ago . They just wanted to show that following number is not as important on Pinterest as
maybe on some other platforms . And they wanted to emphasize that there was another metric
, which is Pinterest monthly viewers . And it actually took them about four or five months to make this
monthly viewers number available on all the accounts across the platform . So I honestly don’t think they are going to keep them in private again. I think this is just a temporary thing
, and Pinterest is going to fix it and start showing them back . Another thing that was happening
since the middle of 2018 and already happen a couple of times in 2019 in massive amounts, it’s spam clean up on the platform . So the first time Facebook
groups for for bloggers got flooded with messages of people who were
blocked , their domains were blocked on Pinterest . It happened in May 2019 and then again , the
same thing happened in August 2019 . I cannot tell exactly what Pinterest is doing
in during this cleanups, but what happens is that across the platform , multiple accounts
are being not even suspended . They’re being being blocked. So what people are seeing when they click
on those pins , they’re seeing this message Blocked link , and then people can’t even
go to the website . I believe that when your domain is blocked, the situation is more complicated, especially
if you’re making money with ads from your website . Because all your pins stop bringing
you traffic at the same time immediately. And this affects the ranking off your pins, and
in the future if Pinterest wants to evaluate whether your account is really spammy, or
maybe your site got into the mix by accident when you remove your domain from the blacklist
. What happens is that most of your pins that were ranking high already on Pinterest, are
gone . And for a while you need to work really hard uploading fresh pins for your old posts that
lost all their positions and virality, to try and recover your traffic . But at the
same time , when your account is just suspended , then it means that you cannot upload new pins . But all your old
pins are still on the platforms, still ranking still being shared and still driving you
traffic . So when you’re getting suspended on Pinterest , you don’t have this deep dive
in traffic and Pinterest views . When your site has blocked on Pinterest , you really
will have zero for for all the times you’ve views, zero clicks for all the time while you’ve
bean blocked . By the way , I made another detailed video about your actions you need
to take If your account has been suspended or your domain was blocked on Pinterest and I will give you
a link above my head . You will find an info Info icon to watch that video in a new tab
. You can also find the link in the description below this video . I give all the links there. And
another huge shift which is happening on Pinterest in 2019 is that the platform is inviting as many
videos as they can. Before , videos were only available for
Pinterest advertisers, and now everyone can upload organic videos and start ranking with
them in Pinterest search results . You can see on mobile devices
that the top search results are actually even given a block of video pins . You need to look
above my head to find the info icon. And I will give you a link there to that detailed
video , which shows you how to create video pins , how to upload them and promote them
on Pinterest . And , as usual , if you cannot see the Info icon above my head , then you can always go in
the description below this video and find all the links there. In general 2019 is a year when Pinterest is experimenting and introducing new types of pins on the platform . So
it’s not only video pins , even though I have to mention that video pins right now
are getting the biggest priority compared to all the other new types of pins , and now video pins are available
to everyone in every account . There is also another type off pins that is also available
to everyone . It’s Carousel pins , but I have to mention that I don’t think Pinterest is really pushing Carousel
pins that hard on the platform compared to video pins. A Carousel pin is a little
bit more difficult to create compared to a regular pin because it’s not just one image. It’s several images –
up to five images connected together as a slider and every much can have its own
title and description. But I’ve tested several times Carousel pins . They
were not easy to create, and I didn’t see any higher performance on Carousel pins compared
to my regular pins . So I stopped creating those . But I actually do create more video
pins recently. Another new type of pins that interested introducing this year Story
pins. They’re not yet available on all the accounts. I can tell that on my account, I cannot create Story pins so I can even show you any tutorial or give you any initial
results of my testing. But it’s possible to create Story pins
for some accounts , but it’s clear that a lot of formats that are tested and implemented
on other platforms, Pinterest is trying to bring them to their platform as well , and see how it
works for the audience . Another big change on Pinterest in 2019 . It’s actually pretty
recent happened about the middle of summer this year that Pinterest rolled out their new analytics
on all accounts . And now you cannot go back to your old interest native analytics , and
you can only see the new analytics and new Pinterest analytics look pretty neat . The interface is very clean
. You can filter the data, you can split what you filtered into even smaller segments. And you can analyze things better over here . The only thing that I didn’t really
like is that Pinterest removed from their analytics compared to the old analytics , they
removed the data about the performance of your boards . Now another huge major shift in Pinterest platform
that happened between the middle of 2018 and now where we’re in the middle of 2019 . So
it’s in the last year . Pinterest really appreciates
and rewards the accounts that are able to create a lot of fresh content . It means original
pain’s new images. Even if you are creating those new images for your
old blog posts, Pinterest rewards this and consider them original content . So why I
think it’s important to talk about it is because in regards to this new , fresh original content , all this topic
is also related to duplicate content topic on Pinterest. By duplicate pins, Pinterest means
a unique combination of a Pinterest pin and a URL on your site . So when you
put them together , this is a pin , a unique pin. But when you create a new image for
the same , you’re all it’s still a fresh , unique piece of content . However , if you
created one image linked to this post and then saved it to the same board several times, this is already considered duplication and repetitive behavior . So Pinterest doesn’t
like us to save the same pins to the same board more than once in three months . How
do we know it is ? Because when Tailwind introduced their SmartLoop feature in 2018 initially , Tailwind
allowed you to save the same being to the same board , not more than once a month . And
then all of a sudden there was a huge buzz around the topic of duplicate
pins. And later , as soon as Tailwind released SmartLoop feature from Beta, and made it
available to all their users, they made sure that you cannot say the same thing to
the same board more than once in three months and actually Pinterest recomments doing
it even less . They’re saying that the only reason you would want to save a duplicate pin is because you
want to show it to your new audiences on Pinterest The new followers that joined your account
in the last 4 to 6 months. You can save the pin to the same board to show to them. That’s the only reason. Another major major shift in the way Pinterest marketers they’re
working on the platform that happened again in the middle 2018 and continues until now
is that group boards are losing their distribution power. Piterest made several interviews where
they mentioned that group boards were not meant to be for promoting your pins. They were meant to be for collaboration between some content creators . They didn’t
like that group boards on Pinterest became those huge spammy community communities with
thousands of contributors and no spam limits limits, no pin limits, and not know even specific
topic. Usually when a group board becomes too big when there
are too many contributors , the owner of the the group board is losing the control over it
. Pinterest said that large group boards with thousands of contributors are usually very spammy and not focused on
one specific topic , which should be the title of the board. Pinterest even recommended
people who already joined multiple group boards to start leaving them and only join
smaller group boards that are very specific and niched. So the major change in the
strategy on Pinterest is now that you’re not trying to apply to as many group
boards as you can . You’re very selective You’re finding the group boards that are
worth your pinning there. And that will not hurt your account , and then you focus about 80%
off your efforts , or maybe even 90% of off your efforts on building the boards on your
own account . Even if your account is very small , sometimes it’s
really better to focus on your boards . And instead of saving multiple pins to hundreds
off group boards that used to be a working strategy in 2016-2017 and
even until the middle of 2018 it was working well . And then a lot of accounts that were
part of a little off spammy and huge group boards were penalized . They
lost a lot of traffic , and then it took them time to recover that traffic . And they had
to leave a lot of those group boards to comply with this new algorithm on Pinterest . That’s why actually
, a free advice that you can find on the Internet in multiple blogs or even on YouTube
videos can easily be outdated And it’s not even the fault of the person
who wrote it or recorded the video , because at that time it was an up to date strategy
, and to keep it always updated , they would have to work on a full time . Like I I do , because
now I’m a Pinterest marketing expert , and I have a course about it , and I always do
old updates for for my students in the course . And if you buy it one time , then you have lifetime access to all the updates. But if you come to my YouTube video two years from now, is it my fault that Pinterest changed in two years? Of course not! Obviously , when you’re searching for free
advice , you have to always filter the information and understand that some of the pins might
be already outdated , especially in the world of social media . And when , where everything is changing so quickly
, where platforms have to adapt to their algorithms to new realities to new technologies . To
new types of content that people like All in all what I’m trying to say that learning from
free sources is a good way of learning . But you have to be ready to filter the information
or if you don’t want to waste your time going going through 10 different articles , different
videos on YouTube before you find the right answer , then it’s always better to join a paid
course. For example , mine. You can find a link to my course in the description below the video . Another
important change on Pinterest in the last year is that the platform preffers now pins
that have a moderate height. So, before 2018 . In the middle of 2018 you could create
very tall pins. Those tall pins used to rank very well on Pinterest before because
they simply occupied a lot of space to you . So you could,, for
example , you could have a short pin over here and then one long pin that will take
the space of three shorter pins . So Pinter has changed their algorithm to reduce the
distribution of those super tall pins , because that was obviously a manipulation , so you
will rarely see inorganic search results Those super tall peons Pinterest is mostly
showing pins between 1:2 and 2 to 3 ratio . Sometimes these square pins are also
showing in the feed . But the pins that are so taller
than 1 to 2 ratio , which is like , let’s say , 1000 pixels by 2000 pixels, its okay?
So if you’re pins goes taller than this , then Pinterest probably will
reduce the distribution of that pin and can also cut off the bottom part of the pin when
you’re looking at it in the Smart Feed . There were really a lot of changes in the last year on
Pinterest , and I encourage you to look for the link to this blog post on my side , the
description below the video and let me talk about another thing that has been changing in the last year on Pinterest. And a lot of marketers started also understanding that shit . So it’s about followers . People
used to think that if they just go on Pinterest and follow for follow like they do on Instagram, for example, it will help their account grow faster . So Pinterest made it clear
that you shouldn’t do this follow follow because the quality of your followers in this case is pretty low. And a lot of those followers are actually just bots, or spammers on Pinterest , and
they don’t engage with your pins . Pinterest algorithm works this way
that you first shows your new pins to your followers and evaluates the early engagement
on those pins and the problem is that if your pins are getting
very low engagement based on your followers,
they would distribute your pins across the then Pinterest doesn’t have a reason why whole platform and show it to other users for not your followers
yet . So basically , you’re just killing the engagement on your account by doing this follow for follow thing . So what I’m trying to say is that the quality of your followers on Pinterest
is more important than the number of your followers . And if you have a new account
with low following , it doesn’t mean that you will not get a lot of traffic to your site . And you cannot have high reach
on Pinterest . Yes , you can if you have a quality content . And if you really work hard
on Pinterest SEO and if you had hashtags and everything
, if you work on your boards , everything that I’m teaching in my course again the link
to my course in the description below the video This video is getting too long . And the problem is that I can never give you all
the updates in this video because the updates are happening basically every let’s say
every month. So, like a said, you just need to click on the link to this blog post on my site . It’s
much easier to update the blog post. And hopefully , if there are a lot of important
changes on Pinterest in the future , let’s say six months maybe then I’m going to record a new version
off Pinterest Updates video If this video helped you give me a Thumb up and share it
on Twitter, on Facebook or on Pinterest , and next Thursday I will publish a video which will
show you all the things you should avoid doing If you don’t want to be marked as spam on

  1. Hi Anastasia, I always receive a lot of info from your videos, I recently got one of by links blocked, this was the message "Sorry we blocked this link because it may lead to spam". I would usually post a new image every 2 or 3 days that leads to that link. Do you think that my posting frequency was too high and what is the frequency of posting new images to a link? How do you think I can get the link unblocked? Thanks

  4. Hi,
In August I have noticed my monthly views stop at 635K which increased rapidly before August.

I need to ask that is it possible to pin in same board with the same URL but with 5-6 different Images at once? or I have to pin one image for one URL or blog posts at a time and schedule others to one day, one pin to one board? As you have described in your one video.
    Please provide your valuable advice.

  12. thank you Anastasia for this video- very helpful! what should I do with my pins that have the long format size of the infographics? should I redo those pins so they are the new standard accepted by pinterest now of 1:2 ratio or 2:3 ratio? please advice, thank you so much!

  13. I noticed that my bounce rate from Pinterest is very high. 80-90%. From organic Google traffic is around 75%. So wondering if Pinterest is really worth it. It also dropped in Traffic. It's like every social media platform first want to build their platforms by giving their users "organic/free" traffic and when the platform has enough users they wanna capitalize on it by only letting users getting traffic by paying for it by ads. Look at Facebook, IG, & YouTube. They want you to keep their users on their platform. Wanna slice of the pie? PAY!!!

  14. Do hashtags take a while to work? I put them in the description and i am still not searchable after a few hours. Also, do you ever use spaces or commas? do i put the hash tags like this… #gardeningforbeginners ?

  15. Sir i have a problem with my pinterest acount fallowing limit is very low ony 25 people fallow and up the limet sir please hilp mee please

  16. What happen to the descriptions under our pins. Mine are all gone on my P.C. but they are there on my IPhone and IPad. Pinterest says I don't know how to do it, but I've been doing Pinterest for over 8 yrs with success at descriptions. Funny that Pinterest still has a spot to add a description and when I do, it will only show up on my phone and pad. Any ideas why?

  17. Hi anasta, I need your opinion. Last 3 month ago I was able to follow 300 numbers of follow at a time but now I can't more then 26 follow at a time. Can you tell me what happened on my Pinterest account!!!
Let me know your valuable comment….
    Please.

  18. The "Save From Site" feature in the Pin Builder has not been working for me for weeks now, and support has been zero help. Are you having the same issue? Basically when I put a URL in and select an image that URL will not get pinned with the image, so it will just post the image without the URL and there is no way to add it after the fact. So I'm having to upload all images manually from my hard-drive and then enter the URL manually.

  19. i know that change is inevitable but i think pinterest will lose a lot of users because of these changes. with the short attention span of people using the internet people will feel why bother. so it was fun Pinterest but good bye.

  20. Okay so on the app when I click on a pin I like, there’s no option to see who pinned it or to where. Only the website it was posted is clickable underneath the pin. Am I missing something here?
