  1. This is a prefect time to bring up the Ballou high school scandal. The cheating stars before ever applying for college.
It’s not just the wealthy that rules are being bent for but the poor/ underprivileged.

  2. This is not news or suprising. If admissions practices were fair we would not have needed affirmative action!!!!!

  3. I’m wondering why people are surprised by this?

Historically, schools like The ivy leagues have been called out for legacy practices. If the prospective student had a family member attend then it gave the schools more leverage to admit them. You’d be foolish to think that those “donations” schools receive didn’t come with strings attached.

College admittance is an unclean system and only promotes that if you have money, you have power over others. Frankly, colleges, even public shouldn’t hold the non-profit status because they accumulate wealth.

Beyond the celebrities involved, I’d like to see names of the educators that allowed this to happen. Probably not as glamorous, but they need to be brought to light.

  4. Come on, now! They say it's "unbelievable", the rich involved in this scam and making videos to deceive. Its not "unbelievable". Everyone ostensibly knows: if you're rich, you get more. Ivy League schools are mainly LEGACY schools-LEGACY according to the Dictionary (n) 3: a candidate for membership in an organization (such as a school or fraternal order) who is given special status because of a familial relationship to a member. Today, LEGACY basically means money. If you have enough money, you don't have to abide by the law, as displayed by our current president. We need to thank those holding account for all the other kids who deserved what the rich took. We need to address inequalities as they are. We cannot sugar coat the problem and solve the problem. In this case, I think that we do need to penalize corruption. I think that people who abuse their assets need to be found out.
On the larger scale, I believe the solution is to change policy leaders. Trump and his "friends in high places" need to be exchanged for people who actually represent the people…we have lobbyists and the lobbied in office. Unfortunately, we are stuck with people who want more for themselves. Think about it, if these kids could get into college with no merit…couldn't the current Presidential network be the same?

  5. It is unfortunate but even if the college admission system is changed, that won't stop these people from giving their kids the best jobs/salaries/opportunities. A leg up as they say. Whether these kids graduate or not. From the best colleges or not. Their parents will attempt to find a way to cheat the system and keep the wealth, money and prestige for themselves. And that is the ugly truth.

  6. Only in the United States. We have a national exam in our country before going to College equivalent to SAT. But the exams are all taken in one day in front of the proctor. There's no way to cheat. Then you take an entrance exam for your choice of university or college. The test is held on the campus for several hours. Then you'll find out the results a few weeks after if you pass or not. If you pass you can enroll in that university then interview with the Dean of Admissions as a guide regarding your choice of major.

  7. Two things:
    1) Lets face it, the American college system is corrupt. They're more concerned with the money they make and their reputation rather than if a student gets a diploma. Thats it. It's bull. Unfortunately thats the diploma is the most likeliest of ways to get a job these days.
    2) I wouldnt be surprised if Kate Snow's kids, or any of the other jounalists kids, got a leg up on tue admissions process.

  8. Wealthy Families have been doing the same thing for years! All they did was to Donate some money to the college they wanted!

  9. Years ago I graduated with 27 other students. Four or five went to college, the rest of us went into the military, trade school, nursing, or some other field. Now just about every student goes to college to get that degree and run up a 100k or more student loan.

  10. What about grades and SAT scores? You shouldn't get into college because your parents donated a building, or because you are black and they want to fill a racial quota or because you baked the Dean a batch of cookies. Also, these Ivy League schools are a ripoff. It's not like Harvard has access to information that other colleges don't have access to and can teach it to your kids.

  11. Anyone saying admissions isn’t an unfair process should not be a pundit. Stop both siding morally reprehensible behavior. Learn how to be unbiased

  12. Stupid me.
I believed that the celebrity wealthy were like the rest of us human beings.
Hard working to get what we want..
    Boy..was I a fool..
    Shame on me..
    Never agajn

  13. To all y’all slandering the parents.. don’t lie if you had the money the thought would cross your mind 🤷🏽‍♂️

  14. You have to be rich enough to officially bribe your kids. Arnold Schwarzenegger donated his money to found the Arnold Schwarzenegger Institute. Loughlin didn’t want to donate so much money just $500k. Rich families be generous and donate millions so you can go the official bribery route.

  15. yes there are hundreds and hundreds of schools out there. all at a lack of resources to expand their math and science departments, at the eve of the large new economy. the elite still have reservations about the distribution of opportunity to the rest of their fellow Americans, afraid it will pass over their incompetent or non-competitive children, when that fear is truly unsubstantiated. the realization they avoid is that when education benefits other Americans it can expand our economy in unpredictable ways, and it benefits your children, albeit not to the extent of wealth they would prefer and can currently achieve through the means provided by the rules of our corrupt system

  16. Wow, so the answer is to tell your kids they are not rich enough to go to the top schools? These schools should be ashamed as the almighty buck is more important than providing excellent education to QUALIFIED students.

  17. Not difficult. Hillary Clinton would have gotten the kids into college of choice instantly with no exam. Sure the bribe cost would have higher but look at the fringe benefits- Clinton Foundation would laundered the bribe and Hillary would tell her FBI and DOJ “Hands off, no investigation boys! “. Piece of cake. Parents were just stupid! But the good news for parents involved Lois Lerner is being rehired by IRS to investigate the fraud on American taxpayers! So it all worked out well in the end. Hi Anthony Weiner! Hear you have a new computer!

  18. They need to think about when they are 25 and have $100,000 in loan debt that can't go away with bankrupsy, And find it impossible to buy a house or rent an apartment

  19. This college admission scandal is a mess, but please keep in mind that not all students who go to elite colleges are rich. I know from personal experience that Yale and Harvard, for example, offer generous financial aid packages that allow non-rich students (such as my sons who went to a rural public high school) to attend without having to take out any student loans. I have also met the children of wealthy people attending these schools, and guess what, they are extremely smart.

  20. Can we please stop assuming life should be fair? It’s everyone for themselves. This ugly fact has proven itself out time and time again…

  21. They want more students to apply but they are going to decrease their acceptance rate and increase their tuition. That's how they protect their exclusivity. These Ivy League colleges got some balls.

  22. When our entire country is broken why should we expect any institution to function honestly or with out corruption ….So the educational institutions say they are going to be "TRANSPARENT" would that be the same "TRANSPARENCY" the Government is showing it's people…..Just curious…….

  23. Yes the college admission system needs to change, but it is a product of our society as of whole. The reason people want to spend so much energy and money getting their child into the best schools as early as Kindergarten is because some companies only recruit new hires from those schools. So if you want to work at the best Law Firm, the best Hospital in the country you have to have gone to one of the "Best Schools". That must change first before the school system changes.

As others have stated this has been going on forever. Rich people have been stacking the deck in their children's favor for centuries. I don't care if it is legal or not, donating a building should not be the criteria a school uses in order to determine whether or not Johnny or Sally gets into the school. I don't really see a big difference in doing that vs what 30+ people were found to have done. All they did was go to the extreme. I think it should all be illegal.

  24. Why is america making it so hard for people to learn are you kidding me keep america stupid yep. Are the people that cheated getting passing their courses? So they were giong to be denied entry even though they are capable wtf. Im poor but they didnt take anyones slot try other schools. And the school gets there money life isnt fair have you done your taxes? This addmissiion bulxshxt needs to be completely revised and do not hinder the the seeking of furthering wisdom by making peopl compete my god its the schools JOB to give you knowlege not to block from it wake up you nincompoops. I only took one semester of jr college but im smart enough to recognize this broken process meant improve lives instead being manipulated not by the people trying to get it but by the educational system itself. Stop public shaming the parents and students who cheated but are greatful and using that oppprtunity to actually learn. They just may contribute to society as a result. There is room for everyone drop the addmissions process and TEACH thats what your HERE FOR . Sorry, typing so fast and mad my keyboard cant keep up you know what I mean. I really am literate.

  25. STFU!! You people know this has been going on for years. Exaggerated fakeness about how surprised this scam is. Please, these people are raised to lie and cheat.

  26. Nobody pays 5 million or 500k for rigged admissions. This is a scheme much darker than buying diplomas. It’s human trafficking and money laundering. Wake up

  27. Did this person just say that the schools want winning teams to help school moral and have the alumni donate more. She really meant to say that the student athlete grosses billions for these schools on there own what a clown!

  28. America is not a meritocracy! All about the Benjamin's, connections, and legacy admissions! College is a bussines. Regular people need to stop obsessing over those top schools, they're not worth the sweat and tears since they're rigged.

  29. Everybody wants to the rule the world. Elite schools will always be a much better experience. Media does not portray average school in a positive manner.

  30. If the "admission process" is "flawed" it's because the "whole school system" is. Learn basics and wait for the sensical times.

  31. Many of these schools were complicit in the scandal, and should be exposed as such. Stanford accepted almost $800k to accept students into their sailing program that never sailed? Come on. Money talks.

  32. If a student can only get in through the admission process as a game what kind of message does that send and what kind of country are we that allows this?

  33. KELLEY WILLIAMS-BOLAR went to jail for 9 days… Just for using her daughters father's address to register her kids in an out of district school. Let's see what happens now!

  34. Cheating students should have been arrested. They committed multiple crimes.

You want to fix the issue. Introduce the entrance exams (different exams for different programs and schools). Forget SATs.

  35. Being a rich white smart kid wanting to go to college. not ok. Being a dumb poor minority wanting to go to college. Very ok.

  36. I still remember my daughter was having so many sleepless nights because of the endless homework assignment, study for the exam from different courses, as well as soccer training and games during her high school years….this college cheating scandal just so sad!!!

  37. Lol like all the comments this is no surprise just imagine our government our president the people who make big choices nothing but liars and cheater

  38. My husband has MS and I have kidney disease. We had to sell our home, live with a car that barely runs, never go on family vacations, eat pasta and rice, don't buy new clothes, barely have any furniture, and put the majority of our very meager income into our 14 year old daughters soccer program, hoping someday she can play on a college team. We are honest and struggle but she doesn't have a chance unless we sacrifice for her. It is pathetic that so many have cheated to get into college sports and shut out deserving athletes. I hope these families have tradegy and devastation in their lives so they know what it is like to go hungry.

  39. I work at North Central University in Minneapolis Minnesota as an admissions counselor and I can tell you that we are as fair as it gets and have over a 90% acceptance rate and hold the same accredited as elite colleges.

Elite education isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

  40. The biggest crime in this entire scandal in my opinion is deprivation of entry to these top colleges to deserving students who have studied hard to qualify and worked hard to pay for the SATs and school fees! The perpetrators need to be punished very hard so that this type of fraud will not occur again and we can “Make America Intelligent Again!”

  41. A strong message need to be sent I hope the Judge throw these parents and yes the students especially the ones that knew in jail locked up CHEATERS AND LIARS all of them

  42. People are cheating their way through the entire process from the entrance essay to taking the SAT exam to admission. They don't submit ANYTHING themselves. It's called contract cheating. And here we are naive thinking that it took hard work and dedication to get into college. It takes money. Always has. Money buys everything, apparently, including an unearned college degree and a better life. Why not just buy a completely different person to represent you? Only show up when it's time for you to go to class. Oh right. That's what you've done already.

  43. I know there's a weird stigma with community college, but it really does make it worth it. You still learn and you owe less. And in the end, jobs are going to care less about where your degree is from and how well you do the job or how good of a fit you are. If you go to Harvard but have to work in a place where teamwork and supporting each other is key, and you have an ugly personality, entitlement, and think you're better than everyone, they're going to hire the community college kid with the same degree in business who made the interviewer smile and gets along with everyone. Also, community college doesn't have to be your whole college career, it can be two years. You get a good GPA, which is easier at man CC's compared to 'top-tiers' for four semesters and you'll be judged on that instead of test scores or something and you've cut your debt.
